To a Young Lady, Who Sent the Author a Paper   Leave a comment

Above:  Drawing of a Victorian Woman

Be pleased, kind Miss, the thanks to own

Of friendship warm and tender;

For sure I prize the favor shown,

Tho’ more I prize the sender.

It is a “Messenger” indeed,

Not lone of current lore,

All this upon its page I read,

But yet it tells me more.

It says that friendship’s mighty ties

By time are broken not;

And this, that most of all I prize,

That I am not forgot.
