Above:  A Chain

We’re forging the links in character’s chain,

That shall bind us to earth and to time,

Each link in its place shall ever remain,

Be it rough, or polished so fine.

The words of the tongue, the deeds of the hand,

And even the thoughts that we think,

Are metals “white hot,” that need but a bend

And a lick to make them a link.

Then ring, ring, ring, let the anvil be heart,

From each link with precision and care,

The chain that you forge as a cable will serve

For the anchor of hope or despair.
