Jno. 3, 31

1.  Origin determines character.  That which originates on earth is earthy.  Religions set up by man are imperfect.  Finite man produces nothing perfect.  “As the man is so is his work.”  His word is never final.

2.  Christ is from above, co-existent with and co-equal with the Father.  His life on earth an incarnation of his deific nature.  Deity dominated his life and work on earth.  He is as far above other men as infinity is above the finite.

3.  Out of an infinitely perfect character came words of infinite wisdom.  ‘Twere but natural that virtue should go out of him.  His teaching the only complete system of ethics the world has ever known.  Man can not add one iota to his teaching.

4.  He did a divine work.  He created the world and undertook to redeem it.  “Who can forgive sins but God only?”  He accepted the challenge.  “If I do not the works of God believe me not.”

He will judge the world, which is the work of none but God.  Finite man can not, infinite God must do it.

How great this theme.  Surely he is the preeminent Christ–above all.

Matt. 28, 20

This is both a promise and a purpose.  They need him and he will aid them.

“I am with you:”

1.  At all times; he never forsakes his children, is here today and forever.

2.  In every thing.

(1)  In church work to guide and aid.

(2)  In business; he would be our greater partner in business.

(3)  In social life–he must be recognized there–let alone what he does not approve.

(4)  In times of danger to shield us.  “It is I; be not afraid.”  “Why were ye fearful, O ye of little faith?”–Pace, be still.

(5)  In trials and afflictions.

3.  If in all these things we will let him be our guide he will be with us to assist us as our need shall be.

Let us follow him.  As we meet the conditions, his own truthfulness is our assurance that he will fulfill the promise.

Experience the Proof of Christ’s Divinity   1 comment

Christ Pantocrator

Above:  Christ Pantocrator

Jno. 7, 17

1.  In opposition to Him they denied his divinity.  He met their objection; they could prove it experimentally.

2.  The heart must be taught of God.  He appeals to the reason, but the will and affections must learn obedience.

Heart results must be realized.

3.  Inward aspirations after the divine prepares the eye to behold the divine reality in Christ.  The heart hungry to be loved knows where love is received.

4.  His teaching, when obeyed, satisfies the moral nature, conscience, unrest, etc.  Meets man’s every need.

5.  It leads up to God–pardon, peace and heaven.  Meets his wants in this and the next world.  Surely the true Christ could do no more.  He surprised the world, did more than they expected, and does yet.

6.  The conclusion is inevitable–He is the Christ.  Only a divine being could do all this.

Hence we know for ourselves that his word is truth and that he is divine.  We need not take another word now.

Obey him and prove him all divine and merciful.
