Of Turtles, Squirrels, and Woods   Leave a comment

Turtles sunned themselves on large rocks

in the Middle Oconee River

then returned to the water

as squirrels darted through trees,

along the ground,

and up tree trunks,

sometimes looking at us we observed them.

The temperature outside was about sixty-four degrees

(Fahrenheit), the sky a lovely shade of blue,

as toward the park, through it, and back home we were bound,

traversing a winding trail in the woods,

occasionally through arborial arches.
