He That Overcometh   1 comment

Rev. 3, 21

1.  The ever-present question is sin.  Man meets it on every hand.  The one problem of every life is the overcoming of sin.

2.  Man may overcome it through the grace of God.   Jesus dominates devils, having overcome sin in the flesh.  He cast out devils & does yet.  Hence he is able to save us from, not in our sins.  His grace is sufficient for us.  There is no condition in life where the trusting soul does not find needed help in Christ.

But the martyrs overcame by dying; so must we die to this old world & sin.

3.  The reward is certain.

(1)  We have a present reward.  Conscious victory over evil day by day.  As thus we live we are sailing toward that shore while heaven’s breezes cool our heated brows and refresh our spirits with the thought of landing in that goodly port soon.

(2)  There we shall sit with Him in His throne

(a)  of eternal victory and

(b)  of unending glory.

“Heaven’s long age of bliss shall pay,

For all his children suffer here.”
