EDITOR’S COMMENT:

I have been adding some of my great-grandfather’s sermon outlines today.  With this post I conclude this round of that activity.  Quite on purpose I end today’s blogging session on a high note.  Although I argue with the man in my brain much of the time that I type his sermon outlines and even say so on occasion, I agree with him more often than not.  And I have a high regard for the Holy Eucharist.  So I make one comment about the following sermon outline:

I agree wholeheartedly.

That is why I partake of sacrament at least once–usually twice–a week.

Jno. 13, 6-9

In partaking of this sacramental fest we should be solemnly affected:

1.  With a sense of our unworthiness–our need of his pardoning and saving grace.  That he died for us emphasizes this.

2.  With a deep sense of reverence and humility.  We owe all to him and should be very grateful for his mercy.

3.  [We] should remember his death for us, because of our great need and because of his boundless love.  We should trust him fully.

4.  We should love one another and pray for one another.
