Luke 24, 15b

Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

–Luke 14:15b, Authorized Version

I.

They were inn great perplexity over the death & reports that he was alive again.  They were in despair.  How they did need help.

II.

“Jesus drew near and went with them,” though they did not recognize him.  He seeks to draw near every distressed heart.

(1)  It was good for them to find a sympathetic listener to their story, that they might pour out their distresses into his ears.  It really helped them to do it.

(2)  He had things to say to them–just what they needed to hear.  God’s word casts light on those things that distressed them.  How it took hold of and warmed their hearts.

(3)  Their eyes were opened and they knew him.  He is the answer to our questionings and the healer of our broken hearts.

How could we do without him?  Don’t try.  Invite his presence and help in all things.
