Matt. 10, 42

I.

The motive determines the quality of the deed.  If meant as a kindness the deed is kind, whatever the results.  Hence the words, “only in the name of a disciple.”

(a)  Small deeds contain great principles.  “Faithful in little, faithful also in much.”  Honest in small affairs reveals the character.

II.

Jesus identifies himself with his own and accepts service for them as done unto himself.  “Ye have done it unto me.”

III.

“Shall in no wise lose his reward.”  What is it?

(b)  Consciousness of having shown a kindly deed.  All such enriches one’s own life.

(c)  Winning a place in another’s good will toward us–not to be despised at all.

(d)  Having the approval of one’s own conscience.  This is no small happiness.

(e)  Christ’s approval is won and added grace received.

He will welcome us at last.

Who would not eagerly seek it?
