I was surprised when I saw this photograph for the first time.  After all, I have visualized my great-grandfather (1873-1956) as the retired minister portrayed here.  Now I have had a few days to look at this image, pondering my great-grandfather as a college graduate in his middle 1920s and a man about to begin his ministerial career.  We all age, changing physically and spiritually as time passes.  I am not the same man I was even a few years ago; neither was my great-grandfather the same person throughout his life.  I want to be clear; I understand this fact.  Although I have acknowledged part of the man’s dark side, I have not done to say that he was a bad man.  Neither do I idolize him.  No, I think of him as a complicated human being–a basically good one.

  1. Your great grandfather was such a love. When my grandfather, his younger brother became an orphan as a teenager Uncle George and Aunt Nellie took him in I was very young when your great grand parents died but remember them well.
