EDITOR’S COMMENT:

I have two words–baptismal regeneration–for my great-grandfather.  But I am close to Roman Catholicism–a faith tradition he condemned–and he considered baptismal regeneration heretical.  C’est la vie.

1 Peter 3, 15

I.

“Without him was not anything made.”  Hence his Sovereign authority.  Creation invests him with the right to rule.

II.

He is also the Author of a new creation–the regenerated heart.  He redeems man.  He is the Lord of heaven and earth.   We are his new creation.

III.

We should so recognize him and by a supreme act make him Lord of heart and life.

(1)  Lord of the intellect, of all we think, pure, wholesome thinking.  Consecrate to him the powers of our minds.  We need him as an anchor of all our thinking.

(2)  Lord of our wills.  Sin is the anarchist of the soul.  we need to surrender the will to Christ.  This adjusts and oils life’s machinery.  “‘Tis best to let him have his way with thee.”

(3)  Lord of the emotions.  Satan would stir up evil passions.  Jesus would purify and rule them in righteousness and love, that holy emotions and desires for and pleasures in that which is good.

Bring forth the royal diadem

and crown him Lord of all.
