After Drawing from the Well

The most basic criterion for a poem on this weblog is that a member (either living or deceased) of my family wrote it or I did.  There is a deep well of such material, and I plan to roll out the poems slowly after the initial upload–no more than one per day most of the time, with the notable exception of the initial upload period, the first day of this weblog’s existence.

So, my reader, thank you for visiting this site; may you find something worthwhile each time you come to this online place.

ADDENDUM:

My great-grandfather’s book of poetry does contain a few poems I choose not to publish.  A certain poem, for example, speaks of

…Afric’s simple child

By knowledge, nor blessed, nor defiled,…

with

His awful paucity of brain….

That offends me.

Another poem extols tobacco.  Yet another contains post-Civil War Lost Cause sentiments.  I reject such points of view strongly; I even have a framed poster of General Sherman.  Secession (at least attempted secession) from the United States constituted treason; I will neither glorify nor defend it.  The book of poetry is, however, in the words of Douglas Adams,

mostly harmless.

The scope of this weblog has become wider since I created it.  Therefore I have changed its name again–this time to ORIGINAL POEMS AND FAMILY HISTORY BLOG.
