Above: A Painting That Once Graced the Taylor House in Summerville, Georgia

I moved last July. Prior to that, I had moved most recently in August 2007. Last July, I moved within Athens-Clarke County, Georgia; I relocated into the Five Points neighborhood.
I learned last Thanksgiving that one of my next-door neighbors used to own the Taylor House in Summerville. I also learned that her former husband was a student under my grandmother, Nell Taylor, at Chattooga High School, in the 1970s.
The painting shown above hangs in a house nextdoor to where I live. This painting hung in the Taylor House for a long time.
It’s a small world.

This is an undated photograph of the John D. Taylor, Sr.-Jr., house in Summerville, Georgia. It seems to come from the 1960s. The car is a 1959 Mercury which my grandfather, John Dodson Taylor, Jr. (1905-1976), bought in 1962 or 1963. The Volkswagen belonged to Eugene Stoddard Taylor, Jr. (1928-2012). The context seems to be a family reunion.
This was the house into which my grandfather, John D. Taylor, Jr., entered the world in 1905. My grandmother, Nell Barrett Taylor spent most her life there also. My father and uncle grew up there, and my mother, sister, and I lived there for a time.

My grandmother was the longtime organist at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Summerville, Georgia.
This photograph could be from the 1960s or early 1970s.

My mother’s family visited my father’s family at Summerville, Georgia, in 1969.
These images might also interest those involved in the restoration of that structure during the next few days.

These are photographs of the dining room at the old family house in better days. The table is no more, for example. But it was a nice piece of furniture.

The text in honor of my grandmother:
…to Mrs. Nell Taylor for her many years of hard work and loyalty to Chattooga High School.
It was an appropriate dedication.

Nell Barrett Taylor (my grandmother, standing at the back and right) and one Mrs. Grant took a group of students at Chattooga High School, Summerville, Georgia, to an opera performance during the 1970-1971 school year.
