After a night of freezing rain
Ice in the trees melted,
Causing a rain of a sort
Audible from inside the front and back doors
Of my apartment.
The rhythm of icy precipitation melting
Was pleasant to my ears
And striking in the moment.

At the end of each year I hear and see nonsense about a “War on Christmas,” with sayings such as “Season’s Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” as alleged evidence. I come from a long line of Christmas keepers who have had no hesitation using “Season’s Greetings” cards. And I recall hearing the Andy Williams version of “Happy Holidays” at home when growing up. None of this corrupted my soul with a secular, Godless agenda. Besides, with the grouping of holidays at the end of the year, “Season’s Greetings” does have the benefit of succinctness.
And I keep Advent for weeks before I observe all twelve days of Christmas.

Officially we are in Winter;
we have experienced snow twice
and known many cold temperatures.
Yet despite all the snow and ice,
+++++
we have had some pleasant Spring days.
The usual weather has a yo-yo
been; Mother Nature seems in a craze
to have fallen. Now what weather will follow?

One day after the great snowfall
yet before the night’s refreeze,
snow and ice melt–sometimes fall
from downtown roofs and eaves.

Authorities say to remain at home–
not to drive unless necessary–
advice I plan to follow–not roam–
while enjoying my homemade tea.
