Satilla Baptist Church Plaque 1985

From June 1982 to June 1985 my father served the Hopewell and Crosby Chapel United Methodist Churches in rural Appling County, Georgia.  The parsonage was on the same lot as the Hopewell Church in the Red Oak community.  Another church in the community was Satilla Baptist Church.  As I recall, the pastor of Satilla Baptist Church was, for some time, unable to make certain pastoral visits, and Dad made them for him.

Teri the Terrier was a rescue dog with three good legs and a full dose of attitude and a vigorous bark.  She, a canine sweetheart, was small enough for us to bathe in the kitchen sink.  Then, of course, she ran outside and rolled around in the dirt, for soil is like canine perfume, apparently.

Teri ran away on moving day in June 1985.  We planned to take her with us, but she darted off.  We had to move on schedule, so we went on our way.  I hope that Teri found a good home.

From June 1982 to June 1985 my father, John D. Taylor, III, was pastor of the South Baxley Charge (Hopewell-Crosby Chapel).  He led an early service at Crosby Chapel then the 11:00 service at Hopewell each Sunday.  Usually I attended Sunday School at Hopewell, but sometimes I went to Crosby Chapel instead.  My most prominent memory of Crosby Chapel is that it sat on a lot adjacent to a pig sty, a fact which became obvious to one’s nose when the wind blew in a certain direction.
